Planning all the celebrations around graduation is tough – in fact, it can be difficult to even know when to start! From figuring out the best time to send out graduation invitations to finalising your guest list, we’ve put together some tips to get the ball rolling.
First of all, the best time to send out invitations is March (don’t worry, we’re only a third of the way through – you’ve got time!). It seems early, but for big events like a graduation that might see relatives travelling cross country to attend, it’s polite and practical to give as much advance notice as possible. It doesn’t have to be a huge chore either; if you use a graduation template to get all the invitations ready to send out, then you don’t have to go through the tedious formatting and designing that’s making you want to drop out – you don’t have to make graduation invitations if there is no graduation, after all.
March is also the ideal time to send out graduation party invitations because as we come out of the winter months, people start to enjoy looking ahead to the long, hot summer, and they’re happy to put an exciting event in their calendars to look forward to. You might even boost your RSVPs by sending them out this time of year! In turn, that’s very helpful to you planning the event – the sooner you know how many people will be coming to celebrate with you, the sooner you can start the real planning like finding a venue (if you don’t want to do it at home), looking into catering and planning the drinks shopping list.
Further, the sooner you know whether you’re going to be hosting a family-heavy or friend-heavy event, you will have a better idea of exactly what decor you’re going to need as well as getting a head start on menu planning, playlist planning and even what time the event will start.
Planning big events like this – big in size and big in meaning – is really stressful, so don’t expect it to be all smooth sailing. But getting a head start on everything by sending out early invitations will leave you time to plan the event you want, as well as giving you room to deal with any pitfalls or problems that present themselves along the way. Also, you’ll get a head start on everyone else, and yours will be the best party in town!
